Well, to start off, you should learn about the material your having painted on your wheels. If a top coat is a single stage and does not require a clear then just dont apply a clear coat. A good shop would tell you the dangers of doing such, however in our day and age to many people are more worried about the all mighty dollar than a quality product. Its pretty much just like when I painted a tonteu cover for a friend with poly gloss black (no clear required) and some dumb ass talked him into spraying a clear over the top it ruined the finsih and he had to pay me twice to re-paint it. Also the sample you had may not have been the same metal composition as the wheel, the composition of the metal does matter when it has a top coat applied.
